Curtis: Art on the Lake
The Art on the Lake festival will offer crafts, a parade, and music to visitors of Curtis Saturday, September 4. The Erickson Center for the Arts in Curtis will host the festival at its park. Admission is $1 and children five and younger can visit the festival free.
The day opens with a pancake breakfast prepared by the Lions Club from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., with proceeds benefiting the center.
Visitors can enjoy a selection of 80 art vendors who will sell a cornucopia of goods. Visitors can expect painted signs and furniture, grapewood birdhouses, baskets, photography, and antler art. Vendors will be available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The annual festival is popular with artisans. Six additional art vendors joined the festival this year, and several more are on a waiting list, as well, said Lynda Soder, the Art on the Lake chairperson for 11 years.
“Every single year it has grown, and the reason is word of mouth,” she said.
Ducks cut out of plywood will be sold as part of a silent auction to benefit the center. Residents have decorated the ducks by a number of methods, from painting them to adorning them with beads.
The Bordertown band will play country music from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Steppin' In It will pick up from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. entertaining attendees with Bluegrass music.
Children will parade around the park grounds at 2 p.m., waving banners they created at the children's art tent. Finn and Fern, 12- foot puppets, will march alongside the children. Banners can be made from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Throughout the day visitors can peruse photographs submitted to the Erickson Center's second annual photo contest and vote for their favorite. Winners will be determined by visitors for people's choice, while a panel of critics will select winners for other categories.
