Break-in Reported at Mackinaw City Mall; New Plan in Place

2010-09-02 / News

Roughly $2,500 and a safe were stolen and a cash register was damaged during a break-in at AMaze N-Mirrors in the Mackinaw Crossings mall in Mackinaw City late Sunday, August 22, assistant manager Sarah Grant told The St. Ignace News. A window into the maze of mirrors was broken.

The building was unoccupied at the time. A rock was discovered inside the building Monday, August 23, and glass shards had fallen both inside and outside of the building, said owner Cathy Skowten. The Sunday theft was the first time the business had been broken into, Mrs. Grant said, and was the first of the season for Mackinaw Crossings.

A suspect has been identified, and the police are currently investigating. No arrests have been made yet, Police Chief Pat Wyman said.

Steps will be taken to deter fur- ther crime in the mall. Additional safety precautions will include leaving the lights on in the stores. So that sounds can be heard from inside the mall, loudspeaker music will be turned off at 1 a.m. now, Mrs. Grant said, instead of leaving it on all night, as before.
