The Pickford Panthers opened up Eastern Upper Peninsula Conference volleyball league play with a 25-17, 25-11, 25-12 decision over the Cedarville Trojans at the John Duncan Gymnasium Thursday, August 26.

"We came ready to play," said Panthers Coach Heather Salmi. "The girls have worked hard and their effort paid off."

The Pickford Panthers defeated the Wolverine Wildcats, 25-10 and 25-9, and Onaway Cardinals, 25- 21 and 26-24, during a road trimatch at Onaway Tuesday, August 24.

The Engadine Eagles recorded a 3-7 record during the Pellston Invitational Saturday, August 21.

"Overall, I was pleased with our effort against strong competition," said Eagles Coach Kathy Miller.

The St. Ignace varsity and junior varsity volleyball teams are selling pies from the Traverse City Pie Company for $16, which can be ordered from any player by Tuesday, September 7, for delivery Wednesday, September 15.

Lakers 4-0 At Atlanta Invite

The Mackinac Island Lakers won the championship in the Atlanta Invitational Tuesday, August 24.

The Lakers compiled a 4-0 record, defeating the host Huskies, 25-18 and 25-12, and Au Gres-Sims Wolverines, 25-15 and 25-20.
