Wawatam Park New Features Open Friday

Chief Wawatam Park, near the Chief Wawatam dock in downtown St. Ignace, will have new features open Friday, September 2. The splash pad, fishing platform, walkway, and landscaping are complete, and the picnic tables and benches will be at the park in time for its opening, said Deb Evashevski, director of the Downtown Development Authority. The educational area, interpretive signs, and lighting on the fence posts should be finished by the end of summer, she said. The children’s splash pad feature will be on a timer and will run from about 10 a.m. until 9 p.m., Mrs. Evashevski said. The park renovations have been in the works since 2007.
