Winds over the weekend and a thunderstorm and temperatures in the low 40s Monday, January 23 moved much of the ice out of Moran Bay, as seen in this photograph taken from atop St. Ignace City Hall, but organizers of next month’s pond hockey and ice and snow sailing championships, as well as other February events in the Straits area, are optimistic that temperatures will drop low enough and long enough to be able to enjoy the winter activities.
