Ohio Man Killed In Snowmobile Accident

A snowmobile accident in Bay Mills Township Friday afternoon, January 20, claimed the life of Gary Gundrum, 52, of Shelby, Ohio. Mr. Gundrum was snowmobiling on a trail from Paradise to Brimley with a group of friends when he lost control of his sled, striking a tree. Mr. Gundrum sustained head and chest injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mr. Gundrum was a business owner who enjoyed riding street and dirt bikes as well as snowmobiles, and loved boating. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, the Mansfield Motorsports Club, and was a student of karate. He is survived by his wife, a stepson, and his stepfather. Arrangements are in care of Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby.

The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office has determined alcohol was not a factor and is reminding all snowmobilers to exercise caution on the trails. This is the second snowmobile fatality in Chippewa County in recent weeks, the sheriff reported.
