Martin Payment, Cedarville Martin Payment, Cedarville Saints Drop SAC Home Game to Cheboygan

The St. Ignace Saints fell to 4-5 overall and 2-3 in the Straits Area Conference after a 69-37 home setback at the hands of the Cheboygan Chiefs Friday, January 20.

St. Ignace held a 11-9 scoring edge after the first eight minutes before the shooting fell off and foul trouble got in the way.

Cheboygan took a 26-16 halftime advantage with a 17-5 margin in the second quarter and the Chiefs outscored the Saints 43-21 in the second half.

Saints statistics: Tyler Snyder, 11 points; Curtis St. Louis, nine points; Parker Simmons, six points; Kurt King, four points; John Eby, three points; Kris Gustafson and Nate Montie, two points.

In the junior varsity game, the Saints defeated the Chiefs 52-46.

Cedarville Remains Perfect in EUPC with Win over Pickford

The Cedarville Trojans remain perfect in the Eastern Upper Peninsula Conference with a 4- 0 league record and 8-0 overall after a 70-60 road win over rival Pickford Panthers Thursday, January 19.

“This was a typical Cedar- ville- Pickford matchup,” said Trojans Coach David Duncan. “The team re- cords are thrown out when the teams face each other.”

Cedarville led 25-12 after the first quarter and 36-24 at halftime after Pickford, 4-5 overall and 1-3 in the conference, held a 12-11 scoring edge in the second quarter. The Panthers closed out the game with a 36-34 in the second half.

Rudyard Improves to 10-1, 4-1 in SAC with Road Win

The Rudyard Bulldogs held a 25- 24 scoring advantage at halftime and outscored the Rogers City Hurons 37-11 in the second half for a 63-75 Straits Area Conference win Friday, January 20, at Rogers City.

Rudyard, 11-1 overall and 4-1 in the conference, trailed 10-9 after the first eight minutes and took the 11-point halftime lead with a 16-14 margin.

The Bulldogs took control to take a 39-30 lead after three quarters and outscored the Hurons 24-5 in the final eight minutes.

Jeff Bomber, Engadine Jeff Bomber, Engadine Free Throws Lift Rudyard To Beat Manistique 53-47

Rudyard made 18 of 25 free throws (72%) to lift the Bulldogs to a 53-47 non-conference win over the Manistique Emeralds Tuesday, January 17.

The Bulldogs held a 10-9 scoring edge after the first eight minutes before outscoring the Emeralds 21-6 in the second quarter for a 30-16 halftime margin.

Manistique outscored Rudyard 31-23 in the second half, but the 18-2 free throw advantage by the Bulldogs was a key to the win.

Matt Rivera, Mackinaw City Matt Rivera, Mackinaw City Brimley Defeats DeTour in EUPC Matchup

The Brimley Bays, 4-1 in the conference and 6-5 overall, defeated the De- Tour Raiders 47-33 during an Eastern Upper Peninsula Conference contest Thursday, January 19. DeTour is now 2-3 in the league and 6-5 on the season.

The Bays led from the opening tip and held a 9-2 advantage after the first eight minutes, then built a 26-15 halftime lead and outscored the Raiders 21-18 in the second half.

Bays statistics: Tommy Aikens, 13 points; Michael Kuenzer, 10 points; Dylan Schroeder, nine points; Shane Beaune, six points; Dan Lothrop, five points; Jason Aikens, two points.

Raiders statistics: Sam Peterson, 12 points; Kaden Barbeaux, 10 points; Steve Pack, eight points; Kirk Peffers, two points; Shane Villo one point.

Fourth Quarter Difference; Eagles Fall to Mustangs, Rockets

The fourth quarter was the difference as the Engadine Eagles dropped a 51-34 home contest to the Munising Mustangs Saturday, January 21, and a 63-48 contest to the Rapid River Rockets Monday, January 16.

Against the Mustangs, the Eagles trailed 33-16 at halftime and were outscored 21-16 in the second half, including 15-5 in the final quarter.

Eagles statistics: Nathanael Miller, eight points, four rebounds; Jeff Bomber, six points, seven rebounds, three steals; Connor Frisch, six points; Robert Miller, four points; Michael Ramelis, three points; Lester Livermore, two points, two assists; Jeff Dishaw, two points.

At Rapid River, the Eagles led 12- 11 after the first quarter before trailing 30-25 at halftime. Engadine outscored Rapid River 12-4 in the third quarter to take a 37-34 lead, but the Rockets captured the last quarter and the game with a 29-11 scoring advantage in the final period.

“We played well for three quarters, but turnovers hurt us in the fourth quarter,” said Eagles Coach Elmer Albright.

Brimley Controls Alanson in Non-League Game

The Brimley Bays defeated the Alanson Vikings 61-17 Monday, January 16.

The Bays took control in the first half, amassing a 35-10 advantage, and outscored the Vikings 26-7 in the second half.

Black Bears Outlast Comets in Non-League Matchup

The Maplewood Baptist Academy Black Bears defeated the Mackinaw City Comets 68- 58 Tuesday, January 17.

The Blackbears took control with a 18-6 lead after the first eight minutes and outscored the Comets 25- 17 in the second quarter to build a 43-23 halftime lead. Mackinaw City held a 35-25 margin in the second half.
