Radecki, Ostman, Thurston 1st; Saints 4th at U.P. Finals
Lou Radecki, at 152 pounds, finished first at the U.P. Championships with a 4-0 record. Senior Lou Radecki, with a 4-0 record at 152 pounds, and juniors Joe Ostman (4-0 at 215) and Galloway Thurston (3-0 at 171) finished first and the St. Ignace Saints wrestling team placed fourth among 19 teams during the Upper Peninsula Championships at Marquette High School Saturday, January 21.
Finishing third were Richard Bentley (125) and Jesse Halberg (135) with 3-1 records, while Billy Bentgen (2-1 at 112) and Joe Krause (2-2 at 145) placed fourth.
Remaining Saints: Jason Brown (130) was 2-2, Dakota McLennan (119) was 1-2, Brandon Oja (160) was 1-2, and Wyatt Orm (189) was 0-2. St. Ignace was open at 103, 140, and heavyweight weight classes.
Escanaba won the championship with 246 points, followed by Iron Mountain 160.5, Marquette 158, St. Ignace 152.5, Gladstone 142, Sault Ste. Marie 130, Norway 85, Negaunee 79, Menominee 78, Manistique 71.5, Rudyard 63, Ishpeming 59, Kingsford 47, West Iron County 45, Gwinn and Westwood 35, Munising 34, Newberry 28, and Bark River-Harris 27.
Joe Ostman, at 215 pounds, placed first in his weight class with a 4- 0 record.
Galloway Thurston, at 171 pounds, finished first with a 3-0 record.
