Brevort
We were greeted with a lovely fairyland scene early Saturday morning, January 28, when the snow had softly fallen on the trees, branches, and buildings. The air was still. One could pick out the individual wild birds at the feeders enjoying their breakfast. In the afternoon, the wind picked up and great puffs of snow went flying through the air.
Bob and Ellen Berry are still cross-country skiing around the area, as well as taking in some of the newly released movies.
Taffy and Tom Coffey celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary Saturday, January 28. They dined out as guests of Kirk Leibengood, who lives near Owosso and is a frequent visitor in Brevort.
Pastor Jeremy Winter is guiding us through the travels and letters of Paul every Friday at 1 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church. The discussion can get lively as Paul’s ministry is revealed to us. Everyone is welcome to join the group.
Jerri Rose rushed her husband, Jim, to the emergency room at Mackinac Straits Health System Friday, January 27. Jim was then taken to Northern Michigan Regional Hospital in Petoskey. Jim returned to his home Saturday, January 28. Please keep him in your prayers as he deals with health issues.
Priscilla “Per” Revord is receiving treatment at Mackinac Straits Health System. She sounds good and enjoys the food. A group of young doctors in training came down from Marquette General Hospital this past weekend to observe patients at the hospital, including Per. Please keep her in your prayers. This is one lady who is seldom sick.
Jack and Thora Shepard have arrived home after a nine-day stay at the home of Melissa Foster and Patty Truman in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. Melissa is progressing as planned, and Patty is doing her doctor training.

It was in September 1973, that a young man introduced himself, “I’m Pastor Jon Magnuson. Just call me Jon.” Jon and his wife, Diana, began their ministry among Trinity and Zion Lutheran Churches. Trinity had 32 adult members and six children. Jon started parish prayers at the home of Jennie Matson. We started a coffee hour at the church, which continues to this day. In 1974 a Sunday School was started, with 25 children in attendance. Some of the children came from Epoufette, along with Brevort children. Our church council was expanded to 10 members to include two high school students, Kyle Avery and Dave Movalson, Jr. We celebrated our 65th church anniversary in 1975. At our annual meeting, the records show a membership of 41 adults and 10 children. Pastor Jon Magnuson celebrated his retirement Sunday, January 29, at Messiah Lutheran Church in Marquette. He served 38 years in the ministry, with 16 years as campus minister at Northern Michigan University.
