The Mackinaw City Chamber of Commerce moved to its new location in the Kilwin’s Plaza on Central Avenue Monday, January 2. Executive Director Dawn Edwards said the agency had been looking for a new space for about two months before its previous lease ended December 31. The previous location was on Central Avenue next to Teysen’s Gallery. Mrs. Edwards works at the location along with administrator Kelly Vieau.

“We feel fortunate we’ve found a neat space,” said Mrs. Edwards. She explained that although the office is only one third the size of the previous headquarters, location had been a key factor in their choice to move to Central Avenue. She said they wanted to be in a prime spot downtown.

The trademark “information station” unit that houses the chamber’s administration area was transported to the new location. It is fashioned after an old train depot and fits with other historical train-themed dĂ©cor in the office.

The chamber has several events coming up in February. Mrs. Edwards said organizers are hopeful sufficient snow will fall to hold the annual Mackinaw Mush sled dog race February 4 and 5. The chamber will support an ice fishing tournament on Paradise Lake February 11 and a month-long spear fishing tournament there. The chamber is also promoting dark sky park events at the Headlands Dark Sky Park including, “Love Letters in the Stars” February 18. That event will be a look at the romantic partners in the constellations and their mythological origins.
