The St. Ignace Saints defeated the Rudyard Bulldogs 63-54 during a Straits Area Conference road contest Friday, January 27, and suffered a 63-53 non-league defeat at the hands of the Pickford Panthers Wednesday, January 25.
The Saints put together one of their most productive games of the season at the Harris Kahl Gymnaisum, which has hosted many exciting St. Ignace-Rudyard games over more than 45 years.
“We played solid basketball and competed hard on defense and offense, and a lot of credit goes to Assistant Coach Jim Clement for his hard work with the players,” said Saints Coach Doug Ingalls. “Curtis St. Louis was the leader on offense, Nate Montie leader on defense, and Kurt King was outstanding on the boards.”
The Saints, 3-3 in SAC and 4-7 overall, raced out to an 18-6 lead in the first quarter, with five players scoring, but Rudyard bounced back to slice the St. Ignace halftime lead to 28-21 with a 15-10 advantage in the second quarter.
Curtis St. Louis flies to the hoop for two of his game-high 30 points against the Bulldogs. Rudyard, 4-2 in the league and 10-2 overall, took its first lead (33- 32) of the game five minutes into the third quarter on a Cody Mesnard 2-point field goal, but Tyler Snyder rang up five points to give St. Ignace a 39-38 scoring edge.
The Bulldogs opened the fourth quarter with two consecutive field goals for a 42-39 lead, but Curtis St. Louis made 14 unanswered points to give the Saints a 53-46 lead with 3:36 left in the game.
Nate Montie of St. Ignace followed on a put-back and, on the play, Rudyard’s Tyler Wilson picked up his fifth foul at 2:54. Both teams scored eight points down the stretch, with St. Louis getting four, Parker Simmons three, and Brennan Danielson one for the Saints and Caleb Salo five, Brandon Radle two, and Cody Mesnard one for the Bulldogs.

DeTour Splits Games; Downs NMCA, Fallst to Hurons
The DeTour Raiders defeated Northern Michigan Christian Academy 47-42 during a home contest Friday, January 27, and dropped a 41-39 contest to Rogers City Saturday, January 28.
At home against the Christian Academy Eagles, the Raiders held a 11-10 scoring edge and increased the margin to 22-17 at halftime with a 11-7 advantage in the second period before both teams scored 25 points in the second half.

On the road at Rogers City, the difference came from the free throw line as the Hurons connected on 10 of 18 and the Raiders connected on only three of 14.

The Cedarville Trojans remain undefeated at 5- 0 in the Eastern Upper Peninsula Conference and 11-0 overall after a 63-29 home league win over the Engadine Eagles Friday, January 27.
The Trojans led 47-13 at halftime before both teams scored 16 points in the second half.

Brimley over Pickford
Brimley outscored Pickford 22-8 to lift the Bays to a 50-39 Eastern Upper Peninsula Conference win over the Panthers Friday, January 27.
The Panthers led 31-28 after three quarters before the Bays turned up their offense in the final eight minutes to post a 11 point win.

The Brimley Bays fell to the Sault Ste. Marie Blue Devils 49-41 during a non-conference road contest, the annual “Rivals vs. Cancer” benefit game, Tuesday, January 24. Proceeds benefit the oncology department at War Memorial Hospital.
The Blue Devils led 28-20 at halftime before both teams scored 21 points in the second half.

Split with Grand Marais
Mackinac Island Lakers split games with the Grand Marais Polar Bears, with the Lakers girls and boys winning on Friday, January 27, but falling to the visitors Saturday, January 28.
The Lakers girls defeated Grand Marais 48-31 on Friday and were defeated 43-41 in overtime on Saturday, while the Mackinac Island boys beat the Polar Bears 59-51 on Friday and fell 78-72 on Saturday.
