GIRLS BASKETBALL

The St. Ignace girls winning streak was elevated to 38 overall and 36 in the Straits Area Conference after the Saints posted home wins over the Pickford Panthers, 69-32, Tuesday, January 24, and the Rudyard Bulldogs, 73-23, Thursday, January 26.
The Saints, 13-0 on the season and 6-0 in the conference, remain the number one team in the Upper Peninsula Class A-B-C poll and are ranked in the top three and four in state wide polls.
“We continue to pass the ball better and finish at the offensive end,” said Saints Coach Dorene Ingalls. “Each girl is receiving valuable playing time.”
St. Ignace held a 15-9 lead after the first eight minutes against Pickford and scored 13 unanswered points for a 28-9 advantage at the 4:32 mark of the second quarter. The score was 38-14 at halftime and the Saints outscored the Panthers 31-18 in the second half.

The Saints led 20-0 at the 2:45 mark of the first quarter en route to the league win over the Bulldogs. St. Ignace held a 49-16 halftime advantage and outscored Rudyard 24-7 in the second half.

The Engadine Eagles improved to 5-0 in the Eastern Upper Peninsula Conference and 10-2 overall after defeating the Cedarville Trojans 55-23 Thursday, January 26, and Krista Metcalf and Morgan MacArthur were credited with 53 points to lift the Eagles to a 73-41 non-conference home win over the Mackinaw City Comets Tuesday, January 24.
In the home win over the Trojans, Engadine held a 45-8 halftime lead to secure the win.

The Cedarville Trojans defeated the Rudyard Bulldogs 48-37 during a non-conference contest Tuesday, January 24.
The Trojans held a 23-20 halftime scoring edge and outscored the Bulldogs 25-19 in the second half.

The Brimley Bays defeated the Pickford Panthers 43-32 during a key Eastern Upper Peninsula Conference contest Thursday, January 26.
The Bays improved to 3-2 in the league and 10-3 overall. They led 20-15 at halftime and outscored the Panthers 23-17 in the second half to post the win.

Bays Fall to Blue Devils in Double Overtime Thriller
The Brimley Bays dropped a 76- 72 double-overtime, non-conference thriller to the Sault Ste. Marie Blue Devils during the 3rd annual “Rivals vs. Cancer” girls basketball benefit game Tuesday, January 24.
The game was tied at 64 when the clock ran out, following a 3-point field goal by Sydney Beaune of Brimley. The senior drained another 3-point basket to send the game into the second extra period tied at 70, but the Blue Devils outscored Brimley
8-2 in the second overtime quarter to post the win.

Split With Soaring Eagles
The Maplewood Baptist Academy split with the Hannahville Soaring Eagles, the host Black Bears winning the girls game 29-28 and the boys game 63-54 Friday, January 20. On Saturday, January 21, the visitors recorded a 33-27 win during the girls game and 58- 52 in the boys contest.
