Thomas W. Hawker, 67, of St. Ignace and Jacksonville, Florida, had been in the restaurant business most of his life. Mr. Hawker passed away early Tuesday morning, February 7, 2012, at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Jacksonville.
He was born May 25, 1944, in Sault Ste. Marie to Eldon James and Patricia Marie (nee Dolan) Hawker.
Mr. Hawker was graduated from Thornridge High School in Dolton, Illinois, and joined the U.S. Army serving with the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
He married Florene Anderson October 2, 1965, in Harvey, Illinois. They made their home in St. Ignace for more than 20 years, and he recently went to Florida to be with his family. He was a restaurant manager and bartender for the Village Inn on Mackinac Island for many years, and also worked for the Village Inn in St. Ignace, for the Dufina family.
He enjoyed playing card games, reading books, and spending time with family and friends.
Mr. Hawker is survived by his children and their families, Michael and Rhonda Hawker of Jacksonville, Cheryl Hawker and Glenn of Orland Park, Illinois; a brother and his family, Jim and Sheila Hawker of Chicago; two sisters, Sue Davies of Chicago, Sister Yvonne Hawker of San Diego, California, and a granddaughter, Brittni Hawker of Mt. Pleasant.
He was preceded in death by his wife, who died February 23, 1998, in St. Ignace.
Friends may call at Dodson Funeral Home Wednesday, February 15, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Services will be at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Father Pawel Mecwel of St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church officiating. The Robinson/Dolan VFW Post will present military rites at the funeral home.
Burial will be in the spring beside his wife in St. Ignatius Cemetery.
