Chris Ann Nelson, 63, of Mackinaw City, formerly of Pine Island, Florida, and Mount Pleasant, passed away Monday, March 4, 2013, at her home, overlooking the Mackinac Bridge.
She was born April 21, 1949, to Ronald and Shirley (nee Herring) Campbell.
She married Burton Nelson June 6, 1970, in the chapel at Central Michigan University. They made their home and raised their family in Mount Pleasant.
Mrs. Nelson enjoyed traveling, sewing, making friends, and spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed sharing her love of art and Michigan history as a teacher at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Academy, and as an employee in all three Mackinac State Historic Parks sites in Mackinaw City.
She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Burton; four children and their families, Cheryl and Kevin Priest of Shepherd, Bryce and Suria Nelson of St. Petersburg, Florida, Carol and Daniel Shaw of White Salmon, Washington, and John and Danielle Nelson of Lansing, and 10 grandchildren, Taylor, Walker, Bear, Kadence, Amya, Willow, Juneau, Charles, Nelson, and Lila. She is also survived by a brother and his family, Bill and Ginger Campbell; a sister and her family, Page and James Stambaugh, and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Nelson was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Campbell, and a grandchild, Beau.
There will be a memorial celebration Saturday, June 22, in Mackinaw City.
