Saints Bring Home 2 Championships

Track Claims 4th Win; Brown Is Top Golfer; 800 Relay Team Sets Meet Record at Finals

Senior Sarah Cullip won three individual events, the St. Ignace 800 relay team set a new meet record, and the 400 and 1600 relay foursomes finished first to lift the Saints to their fourth consecutive Upper Peninsula Track and Field championships, the first in Division 3 at Flivver Field in Kingsford Saturday, June 1.

The Saints captured three straight titles in Division 2 in 2010, 2011, and 2012 before moving down in divisions for this season, but will return to Division 2 next year.

Girls scoring: The Eastern Upper Peninsula had four teams in the top five, led by the Saints with 121 points, followed by Brimley with 57 points, Crystal Falls-Forest Park 47, Pickford 42, Rudyard and Chassell 30, Superior Central 24, Lake Linden-Hubbell 23, Ontonagon 21, Bark River-Harris 20, Grand Marais-Munising Baptist 17, Bessemer and Mid Peninsula 15, Rapid River 13, Engadine, DeTour, and Dollar Bay 12, Baraga 8, Munising 5, North Dickinson 2, and Wakefield- Marenisco 1.

(File photograph) Saints: Sarah Cullip won three events, finishing first in the 800 in 2:29.38, 1600 in 5:36.43, and 3200 in 12:30.12 and placed sixth in the pole vault. Cullip completed her career with an individual title in cross country, member of the state championship basketball team, and the three individual events during the track finals. She has signed to study and run at Grand Valley State University.

“This season went by fast with cross country, basketball, and track,” said Cullip. “There is less pressure playing basketball because you have teammates working with you, but running on the cross country course and track events are individual. I am looking forward to college and running for Grand Valley State University.”

The 400 relay team of Margo Brown, Kelley Wright, Autumn Orm, and Morgan LaVake won in 53.28, and the 1600 foursome of Lilly Calcaterra, Haillee Brown, Margo Brown, and Morgan LaVake finished first in 4:29.34.

Haillee Brown won the low hurdles in 49.41 and placed sixth in the high hurdles; Rachel Hetherington second in 200 and third in the 400; Lilly Calcaterra, second in the 800 and third in 1600 and 3200; Kelley Wright, second in the shot put; Sarah Smith, third in shot put; Margo Brown, sixth in the low hurdles.

The Bays 3200 relay team of Taylor Mills, Tabitha Graham, Kay- lee Hill and Emily Chartrand finished second and the 400 and 800 relays placed fourth.

Pickford: Kim Cruickshank won the high hurdles in 17.15; Heidi Hagen second in 1600 and fourth in 800; Chelsea Kronemeyer, fifth in 3200. The Panthers 3200 relay team of Krysta Wondergem, Heidi Hagen, Alyssa McCord, and Olivia Smith won in 10:29.64 and the 1600 relay foursome of Kelsey Rambo, Krysta Wondergem, Alyssa McCord, and Olivia Smith finished second.

Engadine: The Eagles 800 relay team of Olivia Vaughn, Autumn Arseneau, Abigail Miller, and Aspen Hood finished second and Jacki Formolo fourth in the discus.

DeTour: Nicole Bouwma, second in high jump; Sarah Bailey, fifth in the 400, sixth in the 800; Madison Wilkie, sixth in the 400.
