Vote Yes To Support Firefighters

To the Editor:

Clark Township, in support of the Clark Township Fire Department, is requesting approval of 0.85 mill for two years. The millage would provide the funding for a new rescue truck and personal protective equipment for the firefighters.

The current rescue truck is approaching 25 years and showing its age. When purchased, the truck fit the needs of the department at that time. Since then, updated needs and advancements in firefighting have stretched the capacity and slightly overloaded the vehicle. Additional requirements for vehicle rescue and firefighting will continue. The new rescue truck is being specified to provide a contingency for future needs.

The personal protective equipment was purchased 10 years ago. The personal protective equipment is worn at all emergency scenes, firefighting activities, and twice a month for training meetings. National Fire Protection Association standards recommend that the gear be replaced because of UV degrading and abrasion of the protective layers. The volunteers rely on this gear to protect them while protecting you.

Your Clark Township Volunteer Fire Department worked to provide lower fire insurance rates by obtaining an 8A Rating from the Insurance Service Organization. Certification information is available.

All members are your friends and neighbors, who unselfishly give their time to serve the community. Please support them by voting “Yes” for the fire department millage Tuesday, November 8.
