Panthers Win Over Warriors In 8-man Football Playoffs

The Pickford Panthers steamed rolled over the Forest Area Warriors 53-0 during the regional eightplayer semifinal playoff game at Memorial Field in Pickford Friday, October 28.

The Panthers exploded for 478 yards, led by senior Wyatt Boik with 254 yards on 33 carries, scored four touchdowns, and completed six of seven passes for 49 yards. The Purple and White defense held the Warriors to 101 total yards.

Pickford, 9-1 on the season, took control early with a 32-0 halftime lead on Boik’s four touchdowns from 21, two, four, and 20 yards and added four two-point conversions.

In the second half, Pickford closed out the scoring with a two-yard Lane Warner touchdown, Jimmy Storey from seven yards out and, Jon LaMothe on a 41-yard run. The Panthers added two of three two-point conversions.

The Panthers will battle the Engadine Eagles in the regional championship Friday, November 4. Pickford lost to Engadine 42-32 in the third game of the season. Their nine game victories also include the Bellaire Eagles, 56-6, Pellston Hornets,

68-0, Charlton Heston, 86-14, Posen Vikings, 56-12, Ewen Trout Creek, 64-26, Onaway Cardinals, 66-16, Cedarville Trojans, 44-14, and Rudyard Bulldogs, 52-20.

Pickford has qualified for playoffs in 13 of 14 years with Coach Josh Rader. Rader was a four-year varsity player at Rudyard under his father, Coach Tim Rader. Maplewood Baptist Academy participates in the co-operative program with Pickford. Mr. Rader is the principal at Maplewood.
