Myrtle MacDonald


Myrtle MacDonald Myrtle MacDonald Myrtle Alyne MacDonald, 91, of Mount Pleasant, formerly of Pickford, passed away Thursday, November 3, 2016, in Mount Pleasant.

She was born February 7, 1925, to Frank and Mary (nee Kennedy) Crawford in Mount Pleasant.

Mrs. MacDonald grew up in Pickford, where she attended Pleasant Park country school. She was graduated from Pickford High School in 1943. After high school, she married Edwin MacDonald October 13, 1943, in Holtville, California, where he was stationed with the United States Army. When her husband finished his service, they returned to Pickford to the family farm to rear their children.

After their children were grown, she worked as a waitress and prep cook at the Village Inn in Pickford. In 1985, Mr. and Mrs. Mac- Donald moved to Eaton Rapids, where Mr. MacDonald worked as a crane operator, until they retired. They spent winters in Florida for 19 years, from 1986 to 2005. After her husband’s death in 2006, Mrs. MacDonald moved to the Mount Pleasant area to live near her son, Brian, and his family.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church for 65 years in Pickford and Eaton Rapids. She sang in the choir, and was active in the United Methodist Women and WCTU. She and her husband went on mission trips to Columbia, South America, three times, and to Arizona once. She was a current member of the Central Michigan Free Methodist Church in Mount Pleasant. She was a lifelong member of Farm Bureau and Gideons.

Mrs. MacDonald was well known for her cooking and baking, especially her peanut butter pies, sticky buns, and no-bake cookies.

She is survived by two daughters and their families, Frances and James Wood of Sterling Heights and Beverly and Michael O’Hare of Anaheim, California; two sons and their families, Richard and Shelby MacDonald of Punta Gorda, Florida, and Brian and Linda MacDonald of Shepherd; six grandchildren, Scott and Sandy Wood, Elizabeth and Shawn Grove, Sean and Stacey MacDonald, Adam MacDonald, Davis MacDonald, and Gregory MacDonald, and nine great-grandchildren, Tristan, Logan, and Shelby Grove, McKenna, Masyn, and Christopher MacDonald, and Abbigail, Emelia, and Bennett MacDonald. She is also survived by two brothers and their families, Lyle Crawford of Sault Ste. Marie and Vern and Phyllis Crawford of Marquette; a sister and her family, Edith and Jimmy B. Dilday of Dresden, Tennessee, and a brother-in-law and his family, Marvin and Virgene MacDonald of Pickford.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Edwin, Mrs. Mac- Donald was preceded in death by a son, Robert “Bob” MacDonald; two sisters, Ida Hicks and Colleen Christie; a sister-in-law, Ruby Crawford, and two brothers-in-law, Mel Christie and Ron Hicks.

Visitation will be Friday, November 11, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, November 12, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at R. Galer Funeral Home in Pickford.

Services will be held Saturday, November 12, at 11 a.m. at R. Galer Funeral Home with Pastor Matt Lamb officiating.

Burial will be at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens in Bruce Township.
