This Week, We Put Election Day Behind Us

To the Editor:

No doubt, this election campaign will go down in history and will resonate for years and years. How do we make sense of all of this? At least after Election Day, there will be no more campaign ads.

Democracy is, after all, just a theory, adapted and adopted from past civilizations, most notably from Greece and Rome. It was molded by religious fundamentalists, the early colonists, who were fed up with the loose interpretation of Protestantism by the Church of England and sailed across to have it their own way.

This year, the cracks and fissures in the American experiment have become more visible, thanks to some angry rhetoric and finger pointing.

Opinions still vary about whether the country ever had a singular identity to begin with. I just hope the next presidential election is somewhat more peaceful.
