Laurel Tigner

Laurel Tigner Laurel Tigner Laurel Tigner, 87, passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at Ecumen Seasons in Apple Valley, Minnesota.

She was born in DeTour. She grew up in the Upper Peninsula and remained a lifelong “Yooper,” even after moving to Ohio, where she reared her family.

Mrs. Tigner worked for years for the Ohio Department of Taxation. She took up long-distance biking with a ride from Sydney, Australia, to Melbourne, Australia, at the age of 55. She rode through China, France, Bulgaria, and Ireland, and for years rode in TOSRV in central Ohio.

She was a joyful folk dancer and backpacker, family members said, and she lived her life with a sense of adventure.

She is survived by three daughters and their families, Raechel Wright, Mary Tigner-Räsänen, and Gretchen Tigner and Todd Silas; a son and his family, Bill Tigner; seven grandchildren, Jason and Angie Wright, Emily Wright, Nora, Kati, and Hanna Räsänen, and Jordan and Jon Tigner, and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters and their families, Ruth Cutler, Raechel Alberts, and Karen Olmstead; a daughter-in-law and friend, Peggy Tigner, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Mrs. Tigner’s life will take place this summer in Charlevoix.
