Burton Kanine


Burton Kanine Burton Kanine Burton D. Kanine, 84, of Gould City, died Saturday, December 10, 2016, at his home in Newton Township, surrounded by his family.

He was born April 15, 1932, to Grover and Hazel (nee Seinhoff) Kanine in Saginaw.

Mr. Kanine attended school in Breckenridge.

He married Bonnie Tobias June 16, 1979, in Charleston, South Carolina, and they made their home there. They moved to Gould City from South Carolina following retirement in 1990.

Mr. Kanine was employed as a heavy equipment operator throughout much of his working life. In his later years, he began work in farming, which he did with great joy.

He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Engadine. He served as a volunteer fireman for 20 years with the Newton Township Fire Department. He also served five years with the Birch Run Township Fire Department.

Mr. Kanine was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed the outdoors.

Most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Kanine of Gould City; a son and his family, Rolland and Sharon Kanine of Birch Run; 10 grandchildren; a special grandson, Andrew Reed, and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Kanine was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Reed.

Services will be Wednesday, December 14, at 11 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Engadine with Reverend Arthur Bode officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to time of the service at the church.

Burial will be in Newton Township Cemetery.

Messier-Broullire Funeral Home of Manistique is assisting the family with arrangements.
