Robert Matchinski

Longtime Engadine resident Robert H. Matchinski passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2016, at Helen Newberry Joy Hospital in Newberry. He was 82.

He was born March 5, 1934, to Charles and Anna (nee Fillman) Matchinski in Chicago, Illinois.

Mr. Matchinski was graduated from Bowen High School in Chicago in 1952. He entered the United States Navy in 1953, and served during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1957.

He was employed as a supervisor at U.S. Steel in Chicago. After he retired in 1984, Mr. Matchinski moved to the Engadine area and had resided there since.

Mr. Matchinski enjoyed woodworking, and he was an avid reader.

He is survived by nieces and their families, Lynn and Dennis Wiertella, Janice and Rick Winnick, Pamela and Greg Landing, Roseann and Theron Goss, and Zoe Belka; nephews and their families, Edward and Joann Matchinski, Larry and Linda Matchinski, John Matchinski, Martin Matchinski, and Rex and Gloria Matchinski, and several great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Matchinski was preceded in death by four brothers, Melvin Matchinski, Lester Matchinski, Alfred Matchinski, and Gilbert Matchinski; a sister, Shirley Belka, and a nephew, Lester Matchinski.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at Beaulieu Funeral Home in Newberry with Pastor Art Bode officiating.

Inurnment will be in Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery.
