William Morrison


William Morrison William Morrison William J. Morrison, 84, of Mackinaw City, was a businessman and an avid sailor and master scuba diver. Mr. Morrison died peacefully Thursday, December 22, 2016, at his home, with his family by his side.

He was born December 23, 1931, to Albert and Mary (nee Finnegan) Morrison in Lafayette, Indiana.

Mr. Morrison was graduated from Evanston Township High School. He later attended the University of Illinois, Navy Pier, graduating from the School of Business. During the Korean War, he served in the United States Air Force, and upon returning home, was one of the original founders of Morrison Industries in 1953, where he served in many capacities, including the Cisco, Inc. division in Saginaw. He retired in 1977. He was a former member of the Saginaw Bay Yacht Club. He held his Coast Guard Captain’s 50- ton vessel license. A firm believer in boating education, Mr. Morrison was a senior member of the U.S. Sail and Power Squadron and post commander of District 9. He was a current member of the Marathon, Florida, Sail and Power Squadron.

He was a member of the Great Lakes Cruising Club. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Mackinaw City, St. Justin Martyr Catholic Church in Key Largo, Florida, during the winters, the Rotary Club in Key Largo and Cheboygan, and American Legion Post 159 in Mackinaw City. He was very proud of his family.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janice (nee Marshall) Morrison; five children and their families, Laura and Ricardo Espinoza, A.J. and Maureen Morrison, Matthew Morrison, Gregory and Barbara Morrison, and Marina and David Gertz, and 12 grandchildren, Zack, Tyler, William, Jack, Elijah, Danner, Kiri, Chelsea, Madeline, and Dexter Morrison and Alexandra and Christian Dallago. He is also survived by two younger brothers and their families, Jack and Mary Morrison and Dick and Judy Morrison, all of Grand Rapids.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Morrison was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Mary Marshall.

A funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday, December 28, at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Mackinaw City with Reverend Paul Megge and Sister Chris Herald, O.P. officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to time of the service at the church.

Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery in the spring.

Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Anthony Catholic Church or Hospice of the Straits.

Nordman-Christian Funeral Home in Cheboygan is assisting the family with arrangements.
