Democracy Is A Tool That People Use To Make Decisions Together

To the Editor:

A few years ago, a noted economist said that democracy only works in a growing economy. Without a return to economic growth, the democratic experiment will fail. Doomsday predictions aside, democracy is a tool that people use to make decisions together.

You can find democracy at your local PTA, city council meeting, or county commissioners meeting, wherever people are free to decide among themselves what will happen next.

To suggest that democracy relies on the economy to exist is to forget that social changes are created not by big business and Wall Street, but by we the people, actual human beings.
