Mackinaw City Boys Best Boyne Falls in Basketball

The Mackinaw City boys basketball team kicked off 2017 by defeating Boyne Falls 88-23 on the road in Northern Lakes Conference action Friday, January 6. The Comets’ (3-1, 3-0) first game in almost a month saw them outscore the Loggers in every quarter.

“I challenged my players to play some pressure defense and execute on the offensive end,” Mackinaw City Coach John Martin said. “The Comets definitely brushed off the cobwebs early defensively and finished on the offensive end.”

The Comets opened up a 31-5 lead in the first quarter and extended it to 54-15 by the halftime intermission. Mackinaw City again outscored Boyne Falls 24-2 in the third before holding a 10-6 edge in the fourth. The Loggers have won several conference championships in recent years but the 2016-2017 season is a transitional one for the team.

Comets Statistics: Kash O’Brien, 24 points; Kal O’Brien, 18 points; Michael Elliott, 16 points; Logan Smith, 16 points; Jarred Hartman, 12 points; Nolan LaLonde, two points.
