U.S. Postal Service To Increase Stamp Prices This Sunday

The United States Postal Service will increase the rates on most shipping options from letters to packages Sunday, January 22. First-Class Mail Forever stamps will increase from 47¢ to 49¢ for letters. This is what stamp prices were only a year ago before the Postal Service was forced to reduce the price by a regulatory commission, a move the Postal Service fought at the time as threatening to their financial stability.

Prices for flat parcels and packages will also rise with an increase from 94¢ to 98¢ for flats, and from $2.62 to $2.67 for packages of four ounces or less. The price for each additional ounce for packages will be reduced slightly, to 18¢ from 19¢. The price of extra weight will not increase for letters or flat parcels.

Other changes made include the rebranding of what most would consider junk mail from “Standard Mail” to “Marketing Mail.”
