James ‘Jim’ Colegrove

James Colegrove James Colegrove James E. “Jim” Colegrove, 75, of Moran, passed away Wednesday evening, January 18, 2017, at Hospice of the Straits in Cheboygan.

He was born in Moran January 15, 1942, to C. Everett and Mary Ann (nee Stempki) Colegrove. He was a graduate of Rudyard High School and then was an operating engineer all of his life. He was a member of Operating Engineers Union 324. He worked on many projects as a heavy equipment operator, including the Mackinac Bridge. He also worked in the woods, and was known as a repairman.

He loved camping and country music, the old kind.

He married Roberta “Bobbie” Huntoon October 4, 2005.

He is survived by his wife, Roberta; three daughters and their families, Leslie and James Nunley of Fairbanks, Alaska, Mary Yellen of Trenton, and Donna Colegrove and Aaron Mahle of Key West, Florida; stepchildren and their families, Diane and Terry King, Beverly Shannon and Robert and Debbie Benner, all of Sault Ste. Marie, Connie and John Payment of Brimley, Barbara and Todd Maki of Chatham, Barry Benner of Alabama; siblings and their families, Alfred and Carol Colegrove of St. Ignace, Louise Beaudoin of Trout Lake, Helen Fisher, also of Trout Lake, Dorothy Huffman of Sault Ste. Marie, Doris and Richard Mc- Farland of St. Ignace, and Gladys Belonga of Trout Lake; one granddaughter, one grandson, and one great-grandchild; 16 step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jack McPherson and William Colegrove; two sisters, Patricia Coon and Isabelle Colegrove; a stepson, Ronald Benner, and a son-in-law, Danny Yellen.

Services will be Thursday, January 26, at 2 p.m., at the United Methodist Church in St. Ignace with Pastor Susie Hierholzer officiating. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to time of the service at the church.

Pallbearers will be eight nephews.

Burial will be in the spring in Brevort Township Cemetery in Allenville.

Memorial contributions may be directed to a veteran’s organization of one’s choice or Hospice of the Straits in Cheboygan, with envelopes available from Dodson Funeral Home, who is assisting the family with arrangements.
