Members of the Jewels of the Straits chapter of the Red Hat Society attended a play, “The Foreigner” at Audie’s Restaurant in Mackinaw City. Craig and Lori Lehrke of Brevort Lake were in the cast for the play. They joined the Northland Players a few years ago and enjoy participating. Craig played the part of Reverend David Marshall Lee, while Lori played the part of Staff Sergeant “Froggy” LeSueur. They did a great job and it was a wonderful evening with lots of laughter. Craig is the new administrator of the Hope Chest resale store in St. Ignace. Lori serves as a kindergarten aide at Gros Cap School.

We send get-well wishes to Mike Herman, who was recently hospitalized. Mike volunteers regularly at the Hope Chest resale store. Happy belated birthday wishes to him, as well, February 19.

Happy belated birthday to my granddaughter, Taylor Blair, February 19.

Happy birthday to Jacob Cullip February 21, Clayton Massey, Holly Massey, and Michelle McMillan February 22, Avery Visnaw February 23, LuAnn Krause, Billy Bentgen, and Sylvia Wiggins February 24, and Ian Welch February 28. Best wishes to you all for another good year.

I recently met Cheboygan residents Larry and Joey Miller. They enjoy crossing the Mackinac Bridge and spending time in our area. They say there is a lot to see in the Upper Peninsula and they plan to try to see it all.

In my column last week, I mentioned that Tucker Thomas is a new trail grooming volunteer for the Straits Area Snowmobile Club. Tucker has actually been grooming trails for almost four years and he really enjoys the work. It takes many volunteers to keep our trails in good order and we appreciate them all.

The St. Ignace Recreation Department will offer free adult drop-in pickleball Wednesday, February 22, and Wednesday, March 1, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the St. Ignace elementary school gymnasium. Equipment will be provided. Those who play say it is a fun game, and easy to learn.

I had a nice visit with Deb Perry and Cindy Oja recently. Cindy now resides in Sault Ste. Marie, but she visits her hometown of St. Ignace quite often.

Thought for the day: Don’t think about the cost of doing something; think about the cost of doing nothing.
