DeTour Boys Defeat Mackinaw City on the Road

The DeTour boys basketball team prevailed 52-48 against the hosting Mackinaw City Comets Monday, February 20, in a non-conference game. Mackinaw City’s record is now 12-4 after DeTour held them off in the second half for the victory.

“The offense was very sluggish tonight,” Mackinaw City Coach John Martin said. “We never could get into any sort of rhythm. My hat’s off to DeTour’s pressure for some of that, but we were out of sync right from the opening tip… We have been close to a 70 percent free throw shooting team this year, but the last two games we have been closer to the 50 percent mark. That one is a tough loss for us.”

The game was tight in the first half. The two teams tied 13-13 after the first quarter with the second quarter seeing Mackinaw City holding a small edge to lead 31-29 at halftime. The Raiders took the lead in the third quarter as they outscored the Comets 11-7. DeTour maintained a 12-10 edge in the fourth quarter to hold on for the victory. Mackinaw City only made 14 of its 26 free throws during the game.

Comets statistics: Kash O’Brien, 15 points; Robert Martin, 11 points; Michael Elliott, nine points; Logan Smith, eight points; Jarred Hartman, three points; Nolan LaLonde, one point; Gage Russ, one point.
