Oh, spring, wherefore art thou? By all indications, and the calendar, it should be spring, but Mother Nature has turned her back and given us the cold shoulder. If you look carefully, things are starting to thaw, making the path to the clothesline almost passable. Arriving home from a few months of not-so-snowy weather, the sight of the Mackinac Bridge never gets old. For those of us who call the Upper Peninsula home, it is the first thing that comes into view when you’re just a few miles south. Like Lady Liberty, she puts everything into perspective.

We were able to celebrate with the Engadine Lady Eagles, as they made their appearance at the Breslin Center in East Lansing. The girls did not take home the top prize, but to the fans, friends, and families, they came out as winners, and it was a pleasure to be there.

Folks across the state made their way to the Breslin Center in East Lansing to watch the semifinal game with the Lady Eagles. Many alumni were in the audience, among them Tabitha Kerridge, Laura Bellant, Lowell and Dennis Swartz, Jennifer and Johnny Ketcher, Robyn and Abby Albrecht, Kaylee Rice, and Shawnee and Kasey Rutledge. Most of the girls have new last names, but as we get older, it’s much easier to remember who they were, instead of who they are now.

Congratulations to Devon Derusha and Kaylee Gelinan, who announced their engagement this past week. Devon is the son of Gary Derusha and Deb and Zeke DeWyse.

Allan Spencer and family of Arkansas enjoyed some time at the home of Allan’s folks, Al and Laurie Spencer of Epoufette, and his grandmother, Esther Bigelow, also of Epoufette.

Condolences to Bob Bosman on the recent passing of his daughter, Maggie. Condolences also to the family of Roy Elsworth. Roy was the manager of the Hiawatha Sportsman’s Club in the mid-1970s. He currently had resided on Beaver Island.

Get well wishes are extended to folks who currently are dealing with health issues, including Sally Frazier, Bill Baker, Tom Prater, Linda Bellant, Bonnie Peters, high school classmate and former Rexton resident, Jim Norman of Battle Creek, Bob Hartwig, LuAnn Maudrie, and Travis Weger.

Birthday wishes, a little late, to a dear friend and all-around, do-it-all lady, Mary Ellen Stephenson, who celebrated her 86th birthday March 21. Belated birthday wishes to John Ketcher and Dana Goudreau March 27 and Jay King March 28. Birthday wishes to Tony Martis March 30, Phil Standring March 31, and Danny Price, Ronnie Michael Weger, and Gregg Belleville April 1.
