Francis ‘Herbie’ St. Onge

Francis St. Onge Francis St. Onge Francis Herbert “Herbie” St. Onge, 61, of St. Ignace, passed away Sunday morning, April 2, 2017, at Hospice House in Cheboygan, following a lingering illness with cancer.

He was born December 15, 1955, to Robert and Elizabeth (nee LaPine) St. Onge on Mackinac Island.

He was graduated from Mackinac Island Public School.

Mr. St. Onge was employed as a painter all his life. He worked for Jason St. Onge at St. Onge Latex and Groove for several years. He also worked for Matt Porter Straits Construction.

He was an elder with the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians.

Mr. St. Onge loved to golf, and he was a very good golfer. He also loved his friends, and especially his family.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; his father, Robert St. Onge; two daughters and their families, Colleen and Joe Medicine of Sault Ste. Marie and Elizabeth St. Onge and Josh Bloxsom of St. Ignace, and a granddaughter, Harper Bloxsom. He is also survived by four brothers and their families, Bob St. Onge of St. Ignace, John St. Onge of Mackinac Island, Joe St. Onge and Anne Carr of California, and Will St. Onge of Mackinac Island, and three sisters and their families, Amanda and Paul Wandrie, Sr. of St. Ignace, Margaret Nielsen and Ed Hale of Port Charlotte, Florida, and Catherine and Roy Thomas of New Mexico.

Mr. St. Onge was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth “Pecky” St. Onge, and a sister, Susan St. Onge Green.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 6, at 11 a.m. at Dodson Funeral Home in St. Ignace with Father Jim Williams officiating. A traditional Native American ceremony will follow.
