Engadine Consolidated Schools

by Angie McArthur Superintendent

Congratulations to Jomay Bomber, Derek Clements, and the cast, crew, and volunteers who performed “The Music Man, Jr.” It was an impressive performance. Great job! This was made possible by donations and a grant from the Michigan Youth Arts and Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs.

Students begin testing this week for the M-STEP assessment, a test given to students to gauge their progress on grade-level standards. It is one way that schools can measure student progress. Combined with classroom observations and coursework, teachers and parents have a good idea of how the child is doing academically. Parents can help their students by making sure their child is well rested and has eaten breakfast, either at home or at school.

Tuesday, May 2, voters in precincts in Chippewa, Luce, and Mackinac counties, plus Seney Township, will be asked to vote on a regional Career and Technical Education millage for one mill for 10 years. If passed, the funds will be used to establish and operate CTE programs at schools throughout the Eastern Upper Peninsula. The goal is to provide each 11th and 12th grade student in the EUP region with at least two CTE opportunities, plus entrepreneurial training, while providing job skills that will encourage students to live and work in the EUP. At a national and state level, the pendulum has swung back, and career and vocational education is once again recognized as an important part of public education. There is a shortage of skilled workers, and we want our students to be prepared for these jobs.
