Pinwheels Downtown Call Attention to Children’s Issues

About 240 people took part in the Mackinac County Child Protection Roundtable’s pinwheel parade down North State Street from the St. Ignace Marina to American Legion Park Thursday morning, April 27, to help mark April’s status as Child Abuse Awareness Month. The parade included preschool through second grade students from St. Ignace Area Schools, Community Action Head Start, and Sault Tribe Head Start. At the front of the parade holding the Roundtable sign are (from left) St. Ignace Mayor Connie Litzner, Novalee St. Onge, Bodie Lipnitz, and Bekka Litzner. Mrs. Litzner gave a speech at the end of the walk before many participants planted their pinwheels to form a garden at the park, noting children are vital to Michigan’s future success and prosperity and that they deserve to have safe, stable, nurturing, and healthy homes.
