Ruth ‘Honey’ Dowd

Ruth Darlene “Honey” Dowd passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at Oakridge Healthcare Center in Roseville, California, after an illness with dementia. She was 79.

She was born October 2, 1937, to Toivo and Lempi Salo in Rudyard.

Mrs. Dowd was graduated from Rudyard High School in 1955.

She married her high school sweetheart, Bud Dowd, June 21, 1958. They reared two children.

Mrs. Dowd worked for Eastern Michigan University, before her family moved to Sunnyvale, California, in 1976. She worked for several technology companies in northern California as an executive administrator, until she retired in 1997.

She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, vacations to Hawaii and Michigan, cheering on her granddaughters as they played various sports, bowling, playing piano, and singing. Mrs. Dowd’s engaging smile and warmhearted presence, family members said, will be missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by a son and his family, Dean and Trish Dowd of San Jose, California; a daughter and her family, Jill and Rob Carte of Roseville, and three granddaughters, Brittany Carte, Katie Carte, and Kaila Dowd. She is also survived by two brothers and their families, Raymond Salo of Sault Ste. Marie and Gary and Mary Ann Salo of Rudyard; three sisters-inlaw and their families, Doris Mc- Dowell and Joyce Chadwick, both of Rudyard, and Beth and Herb Spring of Plymouth, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dowd was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, who passed away in 2010; three sistersin law, Marjorie Langendam, Lora Malaska Salo, and Helen Loveless; five brothers-in-law, Clayton Loveless, John Langendam, Bill Chadwick, Leonard McDowell, and Vern Malaska, and her father-inlaw and mother-in-law, Fred and Gertrude Dowd.

A memorial service in celebration of Mrs. Dowd’s life will be held Saturday, June 24, at 1 p.m. at the Cusimano Family Colonial Mortuary in Mountain View, California.

Burial will be at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens in Sault Ste. Marie with her husband.
