PC Pirates Softball Team Falls to Cheboygan

The Pickford/Cedarville Pirates traveled to Sanford Meridian to participate in a four-team tournament Saturday, May 6. In game one, the Pirates played against Ogemaw Heights of West Branch. The pitching and defense were strong, and a two-run seventh inning gave them the 2-1 victory in walk-off fashion. Jonah Bailey went the distance on the mound, pitching seven innings, allowing just one unearned run on three hits. The ball was put in play a lot, but the Pirates defense was up to the task, making play after play.

“Our defense really showed up,” said Head Coach Dan Rambo.

Offensively, Jimmy Storey and Jayden Smith paced the offense with two hits each. Storey went 2- 4 from the plate with an RBI. Smith was 2-3. Isaac Brown had the game winning RBI on a basesloaded fielder’s choice in the bottom of the seventh.

In the championship game, the Pirates played host to Sanford- Meridian. While the defense carried them in game one, it was a different story in this game. The Pirates allowed six unearned runs and only managed one hit offensively. That combination added up to a 10-0 loss in five innings. Stephen Lamothe recorded the Pirates’ only hit. Matt Bush took the loss on the mound.

“We had defensive struggles,” said Coach Rambo. “We ran into a buzz saw, a great team, and we just didn’t play well.”
