Leon Hovey


Leon Hovey Leon Hovey Leon Charles Hovey of Rudyard passed away early Wednesday morning, May 10, 2017, at War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie. He was 78.

He was born August 21, 1938, to Charles and Tillie (nee Wacker) Hovey in Muskegon.

Mr. Hovey was graduated from Muskegon High School in 1956. He served his country in the United States Air Force as a radar operator. His last assignment was Kincheloe Air Force Base.

He married Judy Jacobson July 8, 1961, at the Rudyard Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Hovey was an avid golfer, and he especially enjoyed his Monday outings with friends Curt, Tim, Kevin, and Ski, family members said. He was a longtime member of the Kincheloe Golf Course. He enjoyed bowling, horseshoes, and riding his bike. Mr. Hovey was often found doing yard work and tending his flowers. He loved visiting with his special neighbors, Annyka and Isabella Franklin.

He is survived by his wife, Judy; a sister and her family, Arlene Whiteman of Muskegon; two sisters in-law and their families, Eileen Hovey of North Muskegon and Betty Traver of Casper, Wyoming, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Hovey was preceded in death by two brothers, Vern Hovey and Lawrence Hovey, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Walter and Linda Jacobson.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 20, at 11 a.m. at the Rudyard Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to time of the service at the church. Those attending are asked to wear casual attire.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Rudyard Volunteer Fire Department or the Rudyard Presbyterian Church.

C.S. Mulder Funeral Home in Sault Ste. Marie is assisting the family with arrangements.
