In Solemn Remembrance

Community Members and Veterans Gather To Honor Those Who Did Not Come Home


World War II veteran Eleanor Fitzpatrick of St. Ignace, who served with the Navy Waves, placed a wreath on the Veterans Memorial at the Mackinac County Courthouse to remember all those who died in service to the United States. St. Ignace Mayor Connie Litzner also participated in the placing of the wreath Monday, May 29, in a Memorial Day observance. See story, page 9. A large crowd turns out for the Memorial Day observance at the Mackinac County Courthouse. Branches of the military were represented, as well as the Knights of Columbus and local clergy. The holiday pays tribute to those who died in service to the country. Many veterans were in the crowd and they were acknowledged and applauded for their service, as well. The Coast Guard Color Guard presented the colors at the Memorial Day Service held at the Veterans Memorial outside of the Mackinac County Courthouse.
