William ‘Willie’ Fisher

William Fisher William Fisher William J. “Willie” Fisher, 64, of Mackinac Island, passed away early Thursday morning, June 15, 2017, at his home. He was well known on Mackinac Island, where he had lived all his life.

He was born January 16, 1953, to August and Eleanor (nee Fisher) Fisher on Mackinac Island.

Mr. Fisher was graduated from Mackinac Island Public School. He also attended the Holy Childhood grade school in Harbor Springs. He spent four years in the United States Army.

He married Debra Ferguson October 8, 1990, in St. Ignace.

Mr. Fisher retired from the Department of Public Works on Mackinac Island, after 20 years of service. He drove the wedding carriage for Gough Carriages on Mackinac Island after he retired.

He was outgoing, family members said, and he loved his family. He was known as “PaPa” to his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Debra; two sons and their families, Bill and Rachel Fisher of Georgia and Jim and Julie Fisher of Mackinac Island; two daughters and their families, Dayna and Ed Tremble of Moran and Tracy and Gabe Cowell of Mackinac Island, and 13 grandchildren. He is also survived by four sisters and their families, Carlean Perrault of St. Ignace, Florence and Skip Enright of Cheboygan, Diane Cowell of St. Ignace, and Kim Fyke, also of St. Ignace.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Fisher was preceded in death by four sisters, Joan Fisher, Myra Fisher, Karen Toncher, and Rhoda Eaton.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, June 22, at 11 a.m. at Ste. Anne’s Catholic Church on Mackinac Island with Father Jim Williams and Father John Essel officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to time of the service at the church.

Burial will be in Ste. Anne’s Cemetery.

Dodson Funeral Home of St. Ignace is assisting the family with arrangements.
