James ‘Jim’ Miller


James Miller James Miller James Caldwell “Jim” Miller, 84, of Pickford, passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2017, in Sault Ste. Marie.

He was born April 22, 1933, to Earl and Beulah (nee Wilson) Miller in Pickford.

Mr. Miller grew up in Pickford. He was graduated from Pickford High School in 1951.

He was drafted into the United States Army and served two years, before returning to Pickford. Living only a mile away, he met Marion Lordson, and they were married December 1, 1956, at Pickford Presbyterian Church. They started their family while Mr. Miller worked at Lipsett Chevrolet in Pickford. He also worked many hours on his farm, drove the local milk truck, and hauled freight. In 1980, Mr. Miller and his wife moved from the farm to Kinross, only to return to Pickford a few years later. He worked as a state and federal meat inspector for 18 years, followed by 10 years as a corrections officer, finally retiring in 1993. After retirement, Mr. Miller and his wife vacationed in Alaska.

He was a member of the Pickford Presbyterian Church and American Legion Post 323.

Mr. Miller was an avid walker. He enjoyed cutting wood, camping, snowmobiling, and spending time at the family cabin and with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marion Miller; children and their families, Sue and Keith Mac- Donald of Pickford, Tim and Patsy Miller, also of Pickford, Jan and Mark Huber of Reedsburg, Wisconsin, Marty and Sherry Miller of Pickford, and Kurt and Brenda Miller of Fairbanks, Alaska; grandchildren and their families, Randy and Shaunna MacDonald, Stacey and Ron Miller, Amy Mac- Donald and Grahame Murray, Brandon and Mel Trago, Amanda Trago and Tyler Geoffroy, Kara and Tyler Ruchti, Kyle and Kaitlyn Huber, Ben Miller, and Jamie and Jason Everitt, and 14 greatgrandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters and their families, Margaret and Frank Clark of Muskegon and Linda and Ron Lawlor of Leesburg, Florida; one brother and his family, Robert Miller of Cedarville; two sistersin law and their families, Anna Mae Miller of Kalamazoo and Shirley Lordson of Burt Lake; two brothers-in-law and their families, Tony and Lois Lordson of Rapid River and Robert and Colleen Lordson of Burt Lake, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Miller was preceded in death by three brothers, Ronald Miller, Royce Miller, and Willard Miller; a sister-in-law, Teresa Miller, and a brother-in-law, Allen Lordson.

Services were held Monday, July 3, at 1 p.m. at R. Galer Funeral Home in Pickford with Pastor Jessica Paulsen officiating. Visitation was from 11 a.m. to time of the service.

Burial was at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens in Bruce Township.
