William ‘Bill’ Lamoreaux


William Lamoreaux William Lamoreaux William Dale “Bill” Lamoreaux served in Vietnam with the United States Army, receiving three Purple Hearts for his duty in combat, and later enjoyed a 30-year career at the limestone quarry in Cedarville. Mr. Lamoreaux passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at his home in Hessel. He was 68.

He was born July 27, 1948, to Elmer and Lucy (nee Mongene) Lamoreaux in Hessel.

Mr. Lamoreaux grew up in Hessel, where he attended elementary school at the Hessel School House. He then attended Cedarville High School, where he particularly enjoyed football and also participated in all sports. He was graduated in 1966.

In the fall of 1966, he began service in the United States Army. He was stationed in Vietnam. Following his discharge in October 1969, Mr. Lamoreaux returned to Hessel.

He married Margaret Jean Locsey February 20, 1970, in Cedarville.

After working at the Mackinac County Sheriff’s Department and at Kincheloe Air Force Base for a few years, Mr. Lamoreaux worked at the limestone quarry, from which he retired. In his spare time, he worked as a handyman and carpenter for people needing jobs done around their homes.

He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post in Hessel and later in Brimley. He was a member of the National Rifle Association.

Mr. Lamoreaux enjoyed hunting and fishing, and he was an avid gun collector. Not one to sit still, he was always working on a project, family members said.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Lamoreaux; children and their families, Christine and Gary Baier of Sault Ste. Marie, James and Heather Lamoreaux of Kincheloe, and Billie Jo and Ray Orsborne of Hessel; grandchildren, Lisa and Tyler Brown, Aimee Baier, Jay Baier, James and Taylor Harrison, Narek and Shay Harrison, Andrew Harrison, Desiarae Lamoreaux, Hayden Huyck, Kara and Joe Miller, Dylan Orsborne, and Garrett Orsborne, and greatgrandchildren, Paige, Addie, and Nicholas. He is also survived by his siblings and their families, Jane and Ivan LaComb of Warren, Elmer and Nancy Lamoreaux of Hessel, Shirley Johnidus of Ann Arbor, Andrew “Bud” and Molly Mathews of Hessel, and Connie and Andy Stevenson of Stalwart; a sister-in-law, Joyce Lamoreaux of Utica, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Lamoreaux was preceded in death by his stepmother, Ellen Nye Mathews Lamoreaux, and four siblings, Annie Howard, Vern Lamoreaux, Marjorie Fisher, and Beatrice Harrison.

Services were held Saturday, July 15, at 4 p.m. at R. Galer Funeral Home in Pickford. Visitation was from 1 p.m. to time of the service.

Interment will be at Edgewood Cedar Cemetery in Cedarville at a later date.
