Turkey Shoot Draws Muzzleloader Enthusiasts

A Black Powder Turkey Shoot was held at the St. Ignace Gun Range on Castle Rock Road as part of St. Ignace Heritage Days Saturday, July 15. This was the first year for the event. Traditional muzzleloaders from the 1600s and 1700s were used, including a late 1600s era Matchlock gun built by organizer Nick Barber. Participants in the shoot included (from left): John Dyer, Nick Barber, Tom Snider, Michael Bagley, Gale Berens, and Ray Resold. Mr. Resold of Alanson was the winner of the first place prize of $100, and Mr. Dyer of Charlotte took second place and won a knife handcrafted by Mr. Barber. The event was organized by Project Lakewell and sponsored by the Michilimackinac Historical Society. (Photograph courtesy of Lynn Johnson)
