Rudyard Celebrates Summerfest

Rice Named Citizen of the Year; Warmth for Warriors Also Honored

At left: Don Rice displays the Citizen of the Year award he received from the Rudyard Township Park board Saturday, July 29, at Summerfest. Mr. Rice has been active in the community for more than 35 years, including as a youth pastor and working with Boy Scouts. He has guided and seen 16 of his scouts go on to be awarded the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout.Mr. Rice said he is happy the award gives him an opportunity to express how he feels about the community. “I didn’t do it alone,” he said. “This is a great community and when you take kids and go elsewhere, you really find how nice a job we’ve done.” See stories and more photographs inside this issue.
