Gerald Bennett Gerald Bennett Gerald Bennett, 64, of Goetzville, passed away Thursday, August 17, 2017, at his home.

He was born May 30, 1953, to Thomas and Eva (nee Hiser) Bennett in Cedarville.

Mr. Bennett grew up in Cedarville. He was graduated from Cedarville High School in 1972. After graduation, he began working for his brother in his drywall company for several years. He then completed correctional classes and worked for Mackinac County as a jailer for 25 years. After he retired, he worked for Bennett and Son Logging.

He was a member of the Raber Sportsman’s Club.

Mr. Bennett enjoyed camping, hunting, and boating. He was an avid cook who was locally famous for his pig roasts and grilling, family members said. He was always the jokester, playing pranks on anyone. He loved to be with his family and around people, just talking.

He is survived by his girlfriend of 29 years, Kathleen Wheeler of Goetzville; two children and their families, Todd and Andrea Bennett of Saudi Arabia and Angela and Victor Merchand of Pickford, and grandchildren, Jordan Bennett, Dakota Bennett, Montana Bennett, Troy Bennett, Sabina Merchand, Eva Merchand, and one on the way. He is also survived by sisters and their families, Helen Spencer of Texas, Merrial and Chester Kasper of Cedarville, Carol and Jim Cryderman, also of Cedarville, Rhoda and Bill Beacom of Pickford, and his twin sister, Geraldine LaPrairie of Oklahoma; two brothers and their families, Clayton and Alice Bennett of St. Ignace and Ralph and Karen Bennett of DeTour; a sisterin law and her family, Nancy Bennett; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and greatgreat nephews, and his wife’s family, Jackie O’lear of Goetzville, Thomas O’lear, also of Goetzville, Patricia and Keith Herman of Warren, Timothy O’lear of Utica, and Linda O’lear, also of Utica.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Bennett was preceded in death by two sisters, Harriet Bennett and Sylvia Coveyou; a brother, Thomas Bennett, and a nephew, Shawn LaPrairie.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, September 2, starting at 3 p.m. at the Stalwart Fairgrounds in Stalwart.

Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Pickford Township.

R. Galer Funeral Home in Pickford is assisting the family with arrangements.
