James ‘Chicki’ Tenbusch

James Tenbusch James Tenbusch James Bernard “Chicki” Tenbusch, 85, of St. Ignace, passed away Thursday, August 17, 2017, in St. Ignace.

He was born February 28, 1932, to Alfred and Victoria (nee Carman) Tenbusch in Harbor Beach.

Mr. Tenbusch grew up on the family dairy farm in Harbor Beach.

He joined the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. After returning from the service, he began working for Chevrolet in Flint. In 1961, he met Evelyn Goyette in Harbor Beach through a friend, and they were married January 27, 1962. They reared six children.

In 1980, they went to Texas looking for work, and when their van broke down in Victoria, Texas, they decided to stay. They wintered in Victoria for several years before permanently moving there, spending 33 years in the community. While wintering in Texas, they summered in St. Ignace and ran Evergreen Market. While in Texas, Mr. Tenbusch worked on the railroad and then in the oil fields and did some construction work. He even helped Red Adair putting out oil fires. Mr. Tenbusch and his wife then bought a flea market and operated it with his market on one side and her market on the other side. They owned and operated them until 2010, when they moved back to St. Ignace to be closer to family.

He was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in St. Ignace.

Mr. Tenbusch loved fishing, hunting, and visiting the casino. He was a working man, who was always trying to fix anything that was broken. He loved his wife’s baked goods, and other sweets.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Tenbusch of St. Ignace; children and their families, Peggy and Melvin Prather of St. Ignace, Jamie Tenbusch, also of St. Ignace, Debbie

Wallace of Spicewood, Texas, Julie Cunningham of Victoria, Terri Suggs, also of Victoria, and Belinda and Ken Parsons of Evart; grandchildren, Tracy, Holly, Larry, Karen, Michael, Evan, Belinda, Johnathon, Nicole, Lester, Christopher, Alexander, Jacob, Brandon, Jenifer, Mikey, and Bo; 20 greatgrandchildren, and one great-greatgrandchild. He is also survived by two sisters and their families, Virginia Susulla of Harbor Beach and Judy Kinney of Brownstown; a brother and his family, David Tenbusch of Harbor Beach, and two sisters-in-law, Viola Tenbusch of Flushing and Alberta Banker of Harbor Beach.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Tenbusch was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth Tenbusch and Bill Tenbusch, and two sisters, Agnes Eaker and Carol Wisenbaugh.

Services were held Tuesday, August 22, at 2 p.m. at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in St. Ignace with Father Frank Ricca officiating. Visitation was from noon to time of the service at the church.

Interment will be at Rock Falls Cemetery in Harbor Beach.

R. Galer Funeral Home in Pickford is assisting the family with arrangements.
