Howard Everson

Howard Everson Howard Everson Howard F. Everson, 86, of St. Ignace, was a well-known businessman in St. Ignace, owning with his wife the Stop Party Store for 28 years, and also the Sunset Motel on US-2. He also worked for the Michigan State Ferry system, and he sailed the Great Lakes. He also worked for the Michigan Highway Department. Mr. Everson passed away Thursday afternoon, August 24, 2017, at McLaren Northern Michigan hospital in Petoskey.

He was born November 16, 1930, to Captain Peter and Mary Louise (nee St. Louis) Everson.

Mr. Everson was graduated from LaSalle High School in 1949.

He married Charlotte Lahaie January 20, 1951, at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in St. Ignace.

He had been a partner in the King Pine Hunt Camp since 1965. He was a charter member of Moose Lodge 999. He was a fourth degree Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in St. Ignace. Mr. Everson was an elder with the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians.

He was active in sports and always supported his children and grandchildren in their sports endeavors. He loved to hunt and fish, family members said, and he was a great gardener.

He is survived by his wife, Charlotte; seven children and their families, Peter and Kathy Everson of Brevort Lake, Nina and Charles Litzner of Sault Ste. Marie, James and Kyle Everson of St. Ignace, Linda and Mike Wheelock of Traverse City, Diana and Mark Labadie of Kingsley, Jean and Keith Massaway of St. Ignace, and Robert Everson and Christopher Broomfield of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; a daughter-in-law, Young-Ah Everson of California; 21 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister and her family, Lois Ann Marshall of Marquette, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Everson was preceded in death by two sons, Gary, who died in 2007, and infant William John, who died in 1967; a brother, David, who died in 1976, and two sisters, Ruth and Christine.

Mass of Christian Burial was Saturday, August 26, at noon at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church with Father Frank Ricca, Father Norbert Landreville, and Deacon Tom Mc- Clelland officiating. Visitation was from 10 a.m. to time of the service at the church. Pallbearers were Mr. Everson’s grandsons.

Burial will be in Gros Cap Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the LaSalle Alumni Fund of the St. Ignace Community Foundation, with envelopes available at Dodson Funeral Home in St. Ignace, who assisted the family with arrangements.
