Leonard ‘Len’ Tafelsky

Longtime Curtis area resident Leonard J. “Len” Tafelsky passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2017, at Hospice of the EUP in Sault Ste. Marie. He was 87.

He was born June 11, 1930, to Frank and Emma (nee Weisler) Tafelsky in Traverse City.

Mr. Tafelsky grew up in the Traverse City area. He was graduated from Traverse City High School in 1948.

He married Virginia Arfstrom in 1951. Also in 1951 he entered the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge in 1953. After that, they made their home in Traverse City, where Mr. Tafelsky was employed by Consumers Power Company. He retired as an office supervisor in 1986, following 37 years of service. In 1987, they moved to Curtis, where they had made their home.

Mr. Tafelsky was a member of St. Timothy’s Catholic Church.

He always had a keen interest in aviation, and at one time aspired to become a commercial pilot, family members said. Mr. Tafelsky was a kind and gentle man who loved his family and friends.

He is survived by a brother-inlaw, Robert Arfstrom of Sault Ste. Marie, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Tafelsky was preceded in death by his wife, Ginny, who died in August 2003, and his seven siblings, Inez, Martha, Anna, Theresa, Charles, Joseph, and Phillip.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, September 9, at 11 a.m. at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church in Curtis with Father Timothy Hruska and Father Phillip Witowsky officiating. The family will gather at the church at 10 a.m.

Rite of Committal will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Curtis.

Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Timothy’s Catholic Church or to the charity of one’s choice.

Beaulieu Funeral Home in Newberry is assisting the family with arrangements.
