Disappointed in Handling of Council Decision

To the Editor:

On Tuesday, September 5, the St. Ignace City Council voted no on the proposal to mediate the potential temporary closure of part of Moran Bay to boat traffic. The issue was not on the agenda for that meeting. Supporters of the proposal were not present because they were assured at a previous meeting they would be notified when the issue would be discussed or voted on. By taking this action, it is our opinion that council members disrespected the good faith of the St. Ignace Visitors Bureau, Events Committee, Chamber of Commerce, Kewadin Shores Casino, St. Ignace Hockey Association, and a very large number of year around businesses in St. Ignace. Representatives from all these groups previously attended Council meetings and spoke in support of the proposal. We can only conclude by their conduct the Council found it easier to act behind their back rather than face them.

Island Cemeteries Are In Good Hands

To the Editor:

I had the pleasure of meeting Mike Ruddle, assistant city foreman for Mackinac Island, at the Catholic cemetery on Mackinac Island Wednesday, September 6, while attending the grave of my parents, Mary Jane and Paul Henrichs. He was kind enough to take time and answer many questions of past relatives’ burial sites, quickly searching his “app” of all the graves. He was able to give me some valuable information on the records to help me in my search. His interest of history and reverence of his obligations was most impressive.
