Sarah Pope and Stephen Leverett Wed in St. Ignace


Sarah and Stephen Leverett Sarah and Stephen Leverett Sarah Fair Pope and Stephen George Leverett, both of Portland, Oregon, were united in marriage Saturday, August 12, 2017, at 4 p.m. at the St. Ignace United Methodist Church with Reverend Susie Hierholzer officiating. The bride was given in marriage by her mother, Mary Pope, and her brother, Sherwood Pope.

Music was provided by organist Dawn Akers, pianist Billy Milford, and trumpeters Sherwood Pope and Chris Detrych. Readers were Isaac TerVree and Isaiah TerVree, nephews of the bride.

Maid of honor was Alicia Benavides, friend of the bride. Bridesmaids were Jennifer Leverett, sister of the groom, Gina Pope, sister-in-law of the bride, Jessica Cronk, Chelsea Jahn, and Kelly Lewis, all friends of the bride, and Emma Eubanks, friend of the bride and groom. The bride’s nieces, Rebekah Pope and Natalie TerVree, served as flower girls.

Chris Detrych, friend of the groom, served as best man. Groomsmen were Andrew Pope and Sherwood Pope, both brothers of the bride, John Shorter, friend of the bride and groom, and Jerry Tran, Dan Lingenfelter, and Tim Mercer, all friends of the groom. The bride’s cousin, Jalen Matelski, served as ring bearer.

A reception took place at the Mackinac Grille in St. Ignace.

Guests came from Ann Arbor, Northville, Berkley, St. Louis, Missouri, Chicago, Illinois, North Carolina, Loveland, Colorado, Melbourne, Florida, Miamisburg, Ohio, and Portland.

The bride and groom met at the University of Michigan and both played trumpet in the Michigan marching band. The groom proposed on the 50-yard line at the homecoming game in October 2016. The colors they chose for their wedding were maize and blue, representing the University of Michigan.

The bride is the daughter of Mary and the late Daniel Pope of St. Ignace. She is employed as a family nurse practitioner in Portland.

The groom is the son of Gary and Mona Leverett of Melbourne, Florida. He is employed at Intel.

They will take a wedding trip to Hawaii in January.
