Arden Smith


Arden Smith Arden Smith Arden Dale Smith, 93, of Iron Mountain, passed away Thursday, September 14, 2017, at Florence Health Services in Florence, Wisconsin.

He was born February 2, 1924, born to Cecil and Anna (nee Trerice) Smith in Mackinac County.

Mr. Smith served in the United States Army during World War II, in the European Theater.

He married Rosalie Turk September 21, 1948, in Alanson. The couple enjoyed nearly 69 years of marriage.

Mr. Smith started as a route driver for the Michigan Bakery, delivering bread throughout the Eastern Upper Peninsula. He then went to work for the Teamsters, driving truck on construction sites and at mines.

He was a life member of the American Legion Uren-Cooper- Johnson Post 50. He was an active member of the Masons Lodge 388 in Iron Mountain/Kingsford and Lodge 369 in St. Ignace, where he served as a past master. He also served as the past patron for the Order of the Eastern Star Myrtle Chapter 56 in Ithaca and Innes Chapter 130 in St. Ignace.

Mr. Smith had a strong faith. He was a member of Evangelical Covenant Church in Norway, Michigan, and Homestead Baptist Church in Homestead, Wisconsin.

He is survived by his wife, Rosalie; six children and their families, Michael and Jean Smith of Charlevoix, Gary and Geraldine Smith of Homestead, Steve and Patty Smith of Iron Mountain, Charles and Denise Smith, also of Iron Mountain, Susan and David Marihugh of Harbor Springs, and Ronald Smith of Iron Mountain; 15 grandchildren and their spouses; 41 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers and their families, Vernor and Pat Smith of St. Johns and Norman and Nancy Smith of St. Ignace, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by seven brothers; two sisters; a daughter in-law, Diane Smith; two grandchildren, Ryandavid Marihugh and Nicole Smith, and one great-granddaughter, Ava Simmons.

Visitation was held Sunday, September 17, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Norway.

Services were held Monday, September 18, at 10 a.m. at the church with Reverend James Danielson and Pastor Seiya Asanuma officiating. Visitation was also held from 9 a.m. to time of the service.

Burial followed at Cemetery Park in Iron Mountain. Graveside military rites were accorded by American Legion Posts 50 and 145. Masonic rites were also held at the cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be directed to a memorial to be determined.

Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain assisted the family with arrangements.
