The award is named after veteran sports broadcaster and CMU graduate Dick Enberg. It is presented each year to a student-athlete who has a minimum 3.20 grade point average, has performed with distinction in their sport, and is considered a team leader. Ostman is the first CMU Chippewas football player to receive the award, which has been presented since 2007. He is a marketing major and maintains a 3.68 grade point average. He has twice been named Academic All-Mid American Conference (MAC) and a MAC Dis- tinguished Scholar Athlete.

“It’s a huge honor,” said Ostman in a release. “To be recognized with an award named after Dick Enberg, one of the all-time CMU greats and the fact that my peers and the people around me selected me for this award is extremely humbling and a huge honor. I’m very thankful.”

Ostman was named to the All-Mid American Conference Second Team in 2016 and shared CMU’s Defensive Player of the Year Award. He led the Chippewas, ranked second in the MAC and 34th nationally with nine sacks. Through four games this year, Ostman has 20 tackles and three sacks.
